London bound

Next month, I'm off to London for a one-week vacation.  Anyone have suggestions about DW-related places to visit?  (No, I can't detour to Cardiff.)  I'd also take suggestions on other interesting sights.  I have a couple of guidebooks, and know about the standard tourist attractions.  Thanks!

I'm both excited and nervous. I haven't traveled abroad in a while, and never alone. So I thought a place where I speak the language (sort of) would be a good idea. :-)

I'm not sure it's strictly a DW sight, but if you want to see a police box there's one on the Earl's Court Road right outside the tube station. (In all the time I've lived here, which admittedly began before DW returned, I've only ever seen one person stop to take a photo of it).

Other interesting things: I recently went to the Cabinet War Rooms for the first time - a basement warren underneath Whitehall, where Churchill coordinated WW2 from. Fascinating stuff and there's a big Churchill museum too. A bit pricey to get in but I thought it was worth every penny.

My favourite museum is the V&A.

Not many people do this, but I think it's worth having a wander around the Inns of Court - mainly Lincoln's Inn and the Temple. Lincoln's Inn is north of the Royal Courts of Justice and the Temple is south, just off Fleet Street. They're both beautiful, calm oases in the middle of the city - a bit like Oxford or Cambridge colleges. The Temple church was used in the film of the Da Vinci Code.

My top tip would be to walk as much as possible. The Tube is convenient, but you miss seeing everything. With a map, London is an eminently walkable city.

Thank you for the suggestions. (And, yes, a real police box is DW-related IMO.)
