Rory and Jack talk about life.
A/N: Beta by wendymr.  From a prompt by canaana: Rory, immortality

“Rory!  How’s my favourite Centurion?”

Rory hadn’t expected to see anyone familiar on T’chn’p’l, certainly not a Yank pilot he met during the London Blitz.

Jack?  What are you doing here?”

“It’s a long story.”

“I’ve got time, if you do.”

Jack’s smile is razor-sharp.  “I’ve got nothing but.”

Rory listens, appalled.  “How do you bear it?”

“How did you?”

“I was waiting for Amy.”

“Love is powerful,” Jack agrees.  “I’ve loved many people.”

“Is that... enough?”

“There’s anger, too.  Sometimes I’m not sure I can tell them apart,” Jack murmurs, staring at the blue box at the plaza’s edge.

Love this! Love the idea of Jack and Rory knowing each other.

Thanks! It's fanon that they may have met during Rory's Centurion years (the Blitz is the most likely time). I liked the idea of them meeting again.

This is conceptually wonderful--I love it! In fact, it's so conceptually wonderful, it might work better in a longer format. Which is more my thing that yours, and doesn't detract from it as a drabble at all.

I especially love that killer ending line: Sometimes I'm not sure I can tell them apart." It's a fantastic insight into Jack's character that just cuts like a knife. Brava!

I am so pleased you liked it, because I value your opinion as a reader/writer/editor.

Yes, of course it could be much longer, and it might be fun some time to play with that. Not now, alas.

Jack's feelings about the Doctor are incredibly complex. How could they be otherwise, especially after TYTNW? I came very close to using 'hate' as the second emotion, but 'anger' seemed to work better. Hate is too... simple.
