FIC: The Aide's Tale (Valiant Tales)

Title: The Aide's Tale
Series: Valiant Tales
Rating: PG
Characters:
Tenth Doctor, The Master (Simm), other characters
Genre: drabble
Spoilers: Minor spoilers for The Sound of Drums and Last of the Time Lords.
Summary: A series of drabbles about the people who lived, worked, and suffered on the Valiant during the Year That Never Was.
Disclaimer: The sandbox belongs to RTD and the BBC. I'm just playing here, in the corner, making little sand-TARDISs.
A/N: Thanks to missjemima  for Britpicking this one!

I love my job.  Junior aide to the ruler of the entire bloody planet!  When Mr. Saxon hired me – sorry, the Master, gotta get used to that – I felt on top of the world.  Now I really am.

Some tossers call him a monster.  I don’t believe the rumors about massacres.  He’s eliminated war.  No more nightmares about terrorists setting off nukes. And he’s taking humanity to the stars.

Without this job, I couldn’t afford my brother’s gap year.  He’s chosen Kyoto.  The Master says that Brazil is more interesting, but Jamie loves Japan, and I love my little brother.

It was there, but not very noticeable. I've changed the link text. Thanks!

Oh, that last line evokes so much.

Can I just say that this series is genius.

The really sad part will come later. For the rest of his life Jamie will look at his big sister, and fail to understand the shadows of guilt and horror in her eyes.

Gah. I can't imagine the memories people who were on the Valiant are carrying around. (If Torchwood didn't slip them retcon first.)

I'm sure that most of them were retconned. Of course, some people are resistant to the drug, and may even throw off the amnesia, given the right stimulus.

For those who remember, the memories must be hideous. I hope Francine Jones has a *really* good therapist -- she must have terrible guilt on top of the trauma.
