Fic: Pillow Talk

Title: Pillow Talk
Author: Lindenharp
Words:
100
Characters: Jack Harkness, Alonso Frame
Rating: teen
Spoilers: The End of Time, pt. 2
Summary: Afterwards, they talk.
A/N:
I saw another way of looking at a certain scene in EoT 2. Thanks to my ever-amazing beta,
[info]wendymr .

Jack's not into morning-after chats, but in the aftermath of hard, sweaty sex he sees that Alonso needs to talk.

Jack remembers the spaceship that narrowly missed London.  Now he learns the details.  Innocent lives sacrificed to greed.  The Doctor's desperate journey.  Alonso's nightmare on the bridge, wounded and alone.

"They called me a hero... but I got sacked.  Nobody wants to hire a 'hero' from a jinxed ship."

After Alonso falls asleep in his arms, Jack finally understands the Doctor's gift.  Not an opportunity for a casual shag --  instead, a chance to help another wounded soul find healing.

Thanks! If we have to stick with canon, then this is the spin I'd like to put on it.

YES. It struck me as a hell of a coincidence that the Doctor just picks some random time to locate Jack, finds him in a bar, and guess who happens to be sitting next to him. Like the Doctor knowing exactly when he needed to appear to save Martha and Luke, it seemed to me that there was more behind this introduction.

One of the first things I noticed was how miserable Alonso looked. And the Doctor knows perfectly well that Jack doesn't need any help picking someone up in a bar. I have to conclude that he wanted to put these two together for a reason.

Very nice! And a likely interpretation of the Doctor's intent.

Oh, that's great. Puts a whole new spin on the Doctor's actions. I saw the gesture as one of acceptance, of the Doctor, for the first time, pushing someone he liked at Jack instead of his usual, "Stop it." But you're so right about how things could've gone for Alonso. And how he and Jack might be able to help each other.

As i recall, I -believe- I remember something in canon about JAck being with ALonso for a big moment in his life. Mybe a baby? I don't remember where though! DANG IT

As far as I know, Alonso's only other appearance was in "Voyage of the Damned", and Jack was not in that one.

A little bit of salve for the bruises that the Doctor left behind on both men. Lovely.

Nice. And yes - of course the Doctor didn't just want to help Jack, but Alonso, too - why else would he appear at the precise moment the two meet?

Thanks for sharing!

Ah, but they hadn't met -- they were sitting side-by-side, each lost in his own misery.

As with the previous drabble, this takes something that underwhelmed me on screen and makes it make a lot more sense.

Thank you. The apparent triviality of this scene disturbed me.
